A suitable interpreter helps participants understand questions and communicate their own account. Legal and immigration work can involve detailed chronology, specialist terminology and sensitive personal information. Provide the language and dialect, purpose and relevant background so that suitability, confidentiality expectations and potential conflicts can be considered.
Consultations can be supported in person, by telephone or by video, depending on participant needs and availability. Tell us if the appointment involves a court, police service or another authority with particular registration, qualification, security or approval requirements. We check these requirements before confirmation and work to match the assignment with an appropriately qualified and suitable interpreter.
Allow adequate time for interpretation and, where necessary, breaks. Explain whether documents will be read aloud or discussed and provide agreed briefing material securely in advance. The interpreter conveys the participants’ meaning impartially and does not provide legal advice or determine the outcome of the case.
Share the language and dialect, document length, appointment format and duration. We check availability and agree the briefing and booking arrangements.
Tell us if continuity is important. Preferred linguist arrangements can be considered, subject to availability and suitability.
